Thank you to all the wonderful people who have dropped off over 30 tonnes of donations to our community hub and drop off points.
We now need some extra helping hands to help us sort through it all. Come along, we promise there will be tea and cake! Grab a bag and help us sort through it all. We are lucky enough to have big open spaces outside our hub in Stanton, this means we can safely get together to go through it all. From 10am until 5/6pm we will be on site. Please get in touch if you have a few hours to spare on either day or even both! Or if you can help with some baking or refreshments for the wonderful people who have agreed to come already. We would love to see you. I don't know about you but feeling a little bit like I have stepped in to the twilight zone right now. My children have gone feral and school work is a big no.
I am picking my battles with this one, fed, alive, sanity intact (ish). Then I guess we are winning. And that is us, a family in a home with a garden. FINALLY managed to get a trampoline. Thank you Asda. Although I probably looked like a crazy person hugging the last box for dear life so no one else could have it.... My teenarmy have been amazing helping with the hub. We centralised the hubs to provide a more efficient core service, while we lost our volunteers due to covid. Keeping everyone safe and getting them out of the house helped with the crazy that had been brewing. One of the rare day's I am at home lately, this is only because the car needed to go to the garage. Clocking up miles delivering parcels across the county, Jelly (my cars name) needed new tyres and a bit of TLC. But out there we are supporting parents who are washing their children in washing up liquid, because that is all they have. Skipping meals because they cannot access the usual services and that means more food for the small mouths. We thought this would last 3 weeks. When that came and went, they said another 3. Okay, I don't know about you but I thought hell yeah! No early get up and herd the tiny dictators to school. While arguing over the missing water bottle or sock! Here we are now though, 11 weeks in. No sign of most of us getting reprieve as schools prepare for the impossible task of reopening, while keeping the kids safe. Are your children going back? For some there isn't an option. Going back means food for their children. Then presents the issue of uniform, does what they have fit anymore? What to do about shoes as we are not all trained in accurately guessing the shoe sizes of our small people now clarkes is closed! What next, can't afford uniform or shoes. But they need them so they aren't socially disadvantaged when they do go. It is a tough time for the country. But we are here. If you need a little support, get in touch. You are not alone. We have been there, no money for food and crying into our pillows because we don't know what else to do. We may not be able to change the world for all, but we will try and change it for those that are brave enough to get in touch with us. Make sure you comment and share so those that may not know about us, find out about who we are and what we can do :) |
